Your rights
Good Faith Estimate
Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to know what your care will cost before you receive it.
What the law provides
Under the No Surprises Act, effective January 1, 2022, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your care will cost. Health care providers must give clients who do not have insurance, or who are not using insurance to pay for their care, an estimate of the expected charges.
That includes clients who pay the practice directly and then submit a superbill to their insurer on their own. Clients seen in network through Headway are using their insurance, so this requirement does not apply to those sessions.
What you receive
Your estimate, in writing
You will receive a written Good Faith Estimate before your first session: within one business day of scheduling if the session is three to nine business days away, or within three business days of scheduling if it is ten or more business days away. You can also ask for one at any time, including before you schedule, and it will be provided within three business days.
For ongoing therapy, the estimate covers the expected cost of up to 12 months of sessions.
Major changes to your treatment plan, such as an increase or decrease in session frequency, or a rate change assessed annually, will require a new Good Faith Estimate to be calculated and signed.
Disputes
If a bill exceeds your estimate
In accordance with the No Surprises Act, if you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute that bill. The dispute process must be started within 120 calendar days of the date on the original bill.
Harbor Counseling and Psychological Services, LLC does not participate with any insurance plan except Aetna through Headway in Florida, and is otherwise considered an out-of-network provider. Clients pay the practice directly, and in most cases may submit a claim to their insurer for partial reimbursement.
